    Hi Leo,
Just wanted to say, the Dreamspell is not the actual Mayan Calendar. I know you don’t say so here, but it’s important the distinction be clear so people can make their own decisions in terms of which calendar to follow.

There is so much confusion out there and misinformation, and a lot of people around the world believe that Mr. Arguelles’ Dreamspell calendar represents the authentic Mayan Calendar, namely, the Tzolk’in. It does not. Don Alejandro Oxlaj, who is the Head of the Council of Elders of the Maya, and the rest of the Maya elders have never officially endorsed the Dreamspell, in fact have refused to do so. I think the Maya should know! :-)

Anyway thanks and maybe you could post a calculator for the authentic Tzolk’in? For example today, Nov 9 is 10 Ik.

    Blessings, Birgitte

      To Moksha Gita:
First, thank you for your very eloquent and courteous response, your language alone indicates the level of respect you clearly impart to people you don’t know. it also indicates an extraordinary level of ignorance when it comes to the different calendar systems, and a profound lack of respect for and knowledge about the Maya culture.

Mr. Arguelles’s version of the Tzolk’in was rejected by the Mayan elders, who disagreed with his interpretation. Yes it’s perfectly fine to use his calendar, if you prefer it, but that’s not the point. Our only request, and this comes directly from the Mayan elders with whom we work, is to call it what it is and not confuse the public with statements claiming it’s the Tzolk’in.

      Namaste,
      Birgitte

Agreed with Spectral Warrior. If you’re true to the times, you follow all counts (something to work on for this flash app, perhaps) … would like to use it on Google Wave and Android. Thanks for the prog, great work.

thank you for the Dreamspell! it’s awesome and indeed something I definitely need on the go sometimes.

I have an Android powered Motorola (Milestone, aka Droid)
is it possible to compile this great application for Android OS (CPU – ARM Cortex A8; screen resolution – 480 x 854 pixels)?

would be obliged if author kindly assist or guide me.
    Namaste!

  5. Leo says:

Currently I don’t have any Android device, and don’t have any plans to port the application. But from what I understand a Flash Player should appear for Android during this year.

Hi, just for your info and for those using an iPhone there is a Dreamspell based calculator app available and it’s free!

I will try to find time to make an Android version now when it supports Flash by adding a better way to input dates. We certainly cannot have a situation where iPhone has a better alternative ;)

And an option to use different counts like J Mo suggested seems like a good idea.

  8. Woody says:

Hey all – about the differences between Mayan and Dreamspell counts… They are both valid, they both follow the 260, but the distinction between them is critical. They are not simply different rivers. I asked Jose Arguelles (or Valum Votan) personally in 1997, after about two years of tracking both counts near daily. I attended a Planetary Art Network seminar hosted by the Arguelles, and have had several opportunities to chat with him since. He observes both as well. He received a vision while studying the ruins on the Yucatan from Pacal Votan, and was asked to adjust the calendar and disseminate the knowledge.

It was explained to me that the Mayan traditional count is an exact description of the sky, indeed uniquely so, into the billions of years. The dreamspell only alters the T’zolkin and the Ha’ab (the two shortest counts), and isn’t meant to replace the long count. When tracking the traditional t’zolkin, the information is complex and layered, and even a thousand years ago – by the masters – required a lifetime devotion to it’s study and often a ton of mescaline, to understand and operate. Not that it’s study should be avoided… Jose adjusted the two short loops to simplify them and improve their accessibility to the linear mind. The gregorian tradition of linear measurement of time near to well prevents the understanding of cyclical time. The dramspell is an attempt to ‘retard’ cyclical time to a pace we can keep up with. The difference in counts is achieved by not advancing the T’zolkin on leap years, effectively slowing it. That’s right, the Gregorian calendar is recognized and incorporated into the dreamspell count. Look for yourself, 2/28 and 2/29 are the same. That’s the main difference. He also counts the Ha’ab and ‘days out of time’ differently, but they end up the same length.

  9. Notin the Naming Game for Now says:

What if different ‘cycles’ of time occur(red) simultaneously…
The mimosa pudica plant knows a day’s length, even in the darkness…[wikiped., circadian rhythm page]
Can we ‘remember’ the essence of (the significance) of a cycle?
What does the beginning of a new day/cycle mean to you or me?
What does the totality of a unit represent in a single individuals space-time continuum?
What does one’s ‘birthday’ mean in the “whole-picture” of one’s life?
